Unity '08 Case Study

United Methodist Church

In the one year of existence for the upstart presidential campaign Unity08, KC generated vast amounts of media coverage in the nation’s top political and consumer news outlets.

In the spring of 2006, a group of respected former political operatives asked KC to run media relations for the launch of Unity08, a new third party aspiring to win the White House in 2008 with a bipartisan ticket nominated by people over the Internet.

Because those leaders included respected political hands like The Hotline Founder Doug Bailey, former White House communications director Jerry Rafshoon, and former White House chief of staff Hamilton Jordan, the effort packed credibility. KC leveraged that credibility to generate coverage in major news outlets including PBS “News Hour with Jim Lehrer,” MSNBC “Hardball,” CNN “Situation Room,” “FOX and Friends,” Newsweek, Los Angeles Times, Washington Post, Associated Press and Reuters.

Unity08 then contracted KC to serve as communications director.  Over the ensuing year, KC and its partner Warner Strategies generated coverage in outlets including ABC “World News Tonight,” Bloomberg TV’s “Money and Politics,” Hearst-Argyle Television, The Wall Street Journal, USA Today, New York Times, NPR, Variety, Fortune, and others.

Importantly, KC earned a place at the table on matters of positioning, political strategy, recruitment, and logistics.
